  Letter 1:

  Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to let you know that I wish to move into a new room as soon as possible. I would prefer a single room, as I find the present(目前的) sharing(合住的)arrangement(安排) inconvenient(不方便的).

I must explain(解释)that the reason for my dissatisfaction(不满)is my roommate’s inconsiderate(不顾别人的)behavior. For one thing, his friends are constantly(不断地)visiting him; for another, he regularly(定期地)holds noisy(吵闹的)parties. In addition, he sometimes borrows my things without asking me. In these circumstances(在这种状态下), I find it difficult to concentrate(集中精力)on my studies, and I am falling behind(落后,拉下)in my assignments(作业).

I am sure you will agree that the only solution is for me to move into a room of my own, where I will be free from(免受)such distractions(分神). Therefore, I would be grateful if you could find a single room for me, preferably(最好)not in the same building but as near to the college campus as possible.

  Yours sincerely,

  Kenny Gao

  Letter 2:

  Dear Sir,

I am writing to confirm(确认)the loss(丢失)of my credit card(信用卡). I telephoned your office earlier today.

The details(细节)of my card are as follows(如下). It is a Master-card(万事达卡)in the name of(卡名为)Kenny Gao. The credit card number is 3241 3578 6688. I have had it since 1999. This card is valid(有效的)from 1999 to 2008.

I lost the card yesterday (September 8, 2006) at about 10:30 in the morning. The only time I used the card that day was to buy a pair of sports shoes at Carrifour(加乐福超市)on Jinqiao Road. By accident(不小心), I left the card at the cashier’s(付款处), but the shop assistants there could not find the card.

Could you please cancel(取消)my card immediately and make the necessary arrangements to issue(发放,签发)me with a replacement(替换)card? I can be contacted(联系)at the following address: Room 201, No. 32, 555 Lane, Huashan Road. Should you ever wish to call me, here is my number: 123456789.

Thank you for your assistance(协助). I look forward to hearing from you.

  Yours faithfully,

  Kenny Gao
