iBT Question LINK in the Reading Section: Detail, Negative Detail, and Restatement Questions
Three questions in the reading section require the same skill from you. The Detail, Negative Detail, and Restatement questions demand that you master being able to tell if information is true or false. Using this skill, you can eliminate answers from Detail Questions. Usually, the incorrect answer choices are either irrelevant (not necessary) or false. With Negative Detail Questions, the correct answer is actually the false answer while the incorrect answers are true. Finally, Restatement Questions present you with three sentences that are false and only one that is true. In order to master this ability, you should analyze each of these questions with four different tools known as K.I.S.S. (key words, irrelevant, structure, and synonyms). Always notice key words from the question, answer choices, and the text that cannot be altered like Himalayas. Next, take notice of any answer choices that are irrelevant or not mentioned in the text. Then pay attention to the structure of the answer choice’s grammar in comparison to the text and be sure that no change in meaning has occurred. Finally, watch out for synonyms because usually the correct answer contains some of these useful words.
