FECTWy Lovely Friend
Frankly speaking I never imagined that I would have mustered up courage to attend elementary FECT Examination and got grade A certificate in success. It becomes one more wonderful memory for my life and makes me in a hope to pursue the next goal for which is to successfully pass Medium Level FECT Test.
FECT is the first Examination System of Financial English at national level aiming at nurturing multiple talents not only having solid financial knowledge but also with professional English for financial institutions at all levels. It sounds extremely attractive for all of us concerned. In the first year, there were tens of colleagues in Changsha Sub-branch of the People’s Bank of China took part in the FECT. Thanks to their own pain-taking efforts & support from the bank management, most of them passed the test. Their success stimulated my interest and made me envy them so much, so I made up my mind to take part in and dreamed of one day I was holding FECT certificate too like them.
The chance finally came in the year of 2002. I rushed to sing up and attended the leisure-time training classes because I could not help containing the temptation any longer. Actually the moment I got the teaching materials I found myself at a loss after sign up. You know, it has been ten years after graduation from school, English words and grammar have been forgotten as much as possible. When I thumbed the book, ooh, gosh, what they are! nine tenths of the phrases and words are strange to me, I could not understand and so did with those professional essays. I even wondered whether I had made a right decision to take FECT test. However as I still love English so much, and longer for excellence either in work or study, I said to myself “ come on，just do it..” I set out to study without any more hesitation and worry.
To be honest, it’s not easy for someone without muttering even one English word in ten years. Therefore during those days preparing for examination, I had to work as hard as normal in the daytime, meanwhile I had to attend the training classes in the evening and put down the notes as much as possible. Before the moment I fell into sleep, I tried hard to recall all the words & phrases taught in the classes, even my kid, I had to give up playing with him in the weekend. It was really a hard job, but by doing so, I learned so much, say, not only made progress with the financial English, but also enlarged my professional view and enriched my professional knowledge. Along with FECT, I felt every day was a happy day, every day I got something new, every day I was absorbing abundant nutrition from books. It was such a wonderful period of time.
My tireless effort was duly paid off by getting a Grade A for the examination. Nevertheless I did not rest on laurel wreath but signed up for the Medium Level of FECT test via Internet, and bought many study materials including disc and books. However this time I failed in silence. One reason is there wasn’t any leisure time training class like the first time, while the difficulty of the courses increased much comparatively. The other was I did get tired of reading because of the heavy workload and in a need to take care of my kid. As time goes by, it has been two years from last time I failed and said goodbye to FECT, but I missed FECT more or less.
Today is the birthday of FECT for her ten years introduced in the country. It suddenly reignites my ambitious goal set long before for which is to pass Medium Level of FECT someday. I understand, at present, the talents with good English or with solid financial knowledge are not scarce but many, however when it comes to the talents with both excellent English and financial expertise, it is the other thing badly needed. Meanwhile, I am aware that our Financial Industry has to open up to the world by the end of this year as part of WTO commitment. I think, as one of cadre of central bank, it is a must to set such a goal in order to firmly hold the tide of financial reform & development ongoing, to competently fulfill the new duty given by the bank as well as to pay my own contribution to the realization of a better-off society for the Chinese people.
Therefore, I determined to embrace FECT once again, to experience the happiness, the satisfaction, the fullness it ever brought with in my financial career again. Great thanks to you, FECT, I believe that you are my best friend, and you are best friend helping thousands of other financial talents realize their dreams. I believe, with you, our Financial Industry will be hugging a grand shining tomorrow!
