China's foreign ministry says Prime Minister Wen Jiabao will visit North Korea next week. The visit comes amid growing calls by the international community for Pyongyang to return to nuclear disarmament talks.
Officials say the "goodwill visit" will take place October fourth through the sixth.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Monday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il could make an announcement during Mr. Wen's visit about the now-dormant six-party talks.
North Korea pulled out of the negotiations in April after the United Nations condemned it for launching a rocket over Japan. However, earlier this month, the North Korean leader told a Chinese envoy that he was willing to engage in bilateral and multilateral talks on the issue.
