Chinese shares closed down 2.83 percent on Tuesday, with metal stocks falling on lower commodities prices and banks tumbling on profit-taking, dealers said.
The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, fell 88.11 points to 3,021.46 on turnover of 139.8 billion yuan (20.5 billion dollars).
The Shanghai A-share index lost 92.61 points, or 2.84 percent, to 3,170.94 on turnover of 139.4 billion yuan. The Shenzhen A-share index was down 32.81 points, or 2.87 percent, to 1,108.81 on turnover of 88.9 billion yuan.
