The Malaysian Health Minister Chua Soi Lek has resigned a day after admitting that he was the man shown in two widely circulated pornographic films. The videos are said to have been produced without his consent showing him having sex with a woman. Robin Brant reports from Kuala Lumpur.
“DVDs of the couple having sex emerged in a bizarre way. They were apparently left for people to pick up in public places in parts of Johor, Chua Soi Lek’s home state in the south of Malaysia. On Tuesday, Mr. Chua confirmed that he was the man in the tape, saying the woman was a personal friend. He’s married and has three children. Malaysia is a predominately Muslim country and most people here have conservative attitudes. This is a bad start to what’s likely to be a very important year for the government. A general election is widely expected in a few months’ time.”
