Color can work for you in a decorating scheme if you know what different effects color combinations can have on a room.
Pale colors retreat: they cause walls to look further away. They also reflect light. These colors are ideal for small rooms and can create a brighter atmosphere in dark, older houses. On the contrary, dark colors advance: they can make the surface seem closer to you than it actually is. They can be used to make large rooms appear smaller.
Colors contrasted in tone, such as white and black, emphasize objects. Large areas of color are more intense; neutral colors are the best choice for background areas. Their flexibility (易适应性) makes them the least expensive and simplest to work with.
